Olive wood is naturally dense and hard-wearing, but like any solid wood chopping board or cheese board, it needs a little care to stay in good condition. Here's what we recommend.
Use warm water and a little washing-up liquid, then dry it straight away with a tea towel. Never put an olive wood board in the dishwasher — the heat and prolonged moisture can cause it to warp or crack.
Solid wood shouldn't sit in water. Wash it quickly, rinse, and dry it upright so air can get to both sides.
Use a food-safe mineral oil or a dedicated board oil, applied with a clean cloth and left to soak in. Oiling keeps the wood from drying out and helps prevent cracking — do it whenever the board starts to look a little dry or pale, particularly when it's new.
Don't store your board next to a radiator, oven, or in direct sunlight for long periods — sudden changes in temperature and humidity are what cause solid wood to warp.
Light scratches and knife marks are normal with use. A light sand with fine-grit sandpaper, followed by a fresh coat of oil, will bring the surface back.
Every board comes with a care card, but keep this page bookmarked too.
